The highly anticipated event The Snowman and The Snowdog on December 4th with students from Tameside College hosting stalls, found their plans sent awry by heavy rains and wind on the day. Ashton Town Team and Tameside Markets had planned the events months ahead, but unpredictable weather once again disrupted plans.
Battling the weather, the students and college staff relocated inside Ashton Market Hall along with the Meet and Greet by The Snowman and The Snowdog. Ashton Town Team also bravely hosted a Tombola and the Air Cadets joined in too. Kevin Taylor, Chair of Ashton Town Team said; “It’s obviously not the event we imagined but those who braved the weather were delighted to meet The Snowman, The Snowdog and Santa too. I must also commend the great spirit and determination of the students who created delicious hot food like Jerk Chicken and Goat Curry plus those selling fresh baked goods. We were delighted to welcome the Chief Executive Steven Pleasant MBE, Executive Leader Councillor Brenda Warrington, Principal of Tameside College Jackie Moores and the Town Team Vice Chair Councillor Bill Fairfoull to kick off proceedings. So, our great thanks to Tameside College, Tameside Markets, the Air Cadets and our town team volunteers for pulling out the stops on the day.”
