Tameside’s All Seasons Art Club held their art exhibition in Clarendon Square Shopping Centre in Hyde in February.
The club was established in 2004, with the aims of promoting and advancing art for the benefit of residents of Hattersley and surrounding areas (i.e. all Tameside).
What distinguishes the club from other Art groups in the region is that they have a professional artist in attendance to give tuition and demonstrations in drawing and painting, using various mediums, usually on a one-to-one basis. This makes the informal sessions ideal for anyone, whether complete beginner or more experienced. It also means new members can start at any time and everyone progresses at their own pace.
All adults are welcome, of course, but most members are people who retired and wanted a hobby that’s creative and stimulating, while others have found drawing and painting highly therapeutic following illness. As a decidedly non-strenuous activity, creating artwork is most suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
Learning new skills – and there’s always something new to learn – builds confidence, encourages self-expression, and promotes a wider appreciation of the arts in general. A tremendous sense of achievement comes the first time one gets a picture framed and hung on a wall, even if it’s only in the smallest room!
