Portland Basin was host to a special steampunk event on February 22nd where a plethora of people donned unique outfits for the occasion. Organiser Lorraine Booth organizes the events twice a year and the next event will be Halloween themed in October. She likes to get local people and organisations involved in the events – at the February one the Royal Exchange Theatre came along doing activities with children. Lorraine got involved in steampunk two and half years ago after a visit to Doncaster market after seeing people dressed up. It prompted her to start going through her wardrobe, browsing through second hand and charity shops to create unique dresses, hats, jewellery which she uses for her outfits. She loves the opportunity to take a break from the mundane and steampunk appeals to all ages.

Lorraine suggests if you are interested to discover more about these events then pop along to either the next one in Tameside or if you are looking to get involved yourself you can contact her at lorrainebooth1952@gmail.com
