An important milestone has been celebrated this Summer by Sleigh & Son which opened their first practice in Denton back in 1923. Started by Harold S Sleigh the business started by offering the core services of wills, probate and conveyancing at 15, Hyde Road in Denton.

The branch in Droylsden opened its doors in 1929 offering legal services to local people and the same high-quality service they had already established in Denton.

Harold’s son Christopher had been around in the business for some time as an article clerk before taking the reigns in 1970.  Today he still very much leads the family business with his own son Simon.

The importance of family is reflected through the ethos of the business and is reflected in their deep understanding of family law cases together with their guidance and support to clients. Personal service and trust are vital when people are dealing with legal issues or a bereavement and has been a key element in helping reach their 100th anniversary.

It was in 1982 that the business added estate agency into its portfolio to avoid paying incentives to estate agents for introductions.  It was challenging to add property sales and the business brought in staff with the expertise that would serve clients needs.

In recent years the business has broadened its services by amalgamating with other well respected local businesses which are Booth, Ince & Knowles in Hyde and Sainsburys Solicitors in Denton.

Although celebrating 100 years the business doesn’t take anything for granted and continues to adapt to the changing needs of clients. Sleigh, Son and Booth are protecting a legacy of excellence the way it started back in 1923 – putting local people first and serving their needs.

The final word goes to Christopher Sleigh who emphasises why people like to deal with a family business. “The service is personal, very personal and here on the High Street we are dealing with local people and the local community who are our priority.”
