Whilst attending the annual Rotary Conference, Andy Williams, founder President of Tameside Rotary, was moved by a very personal and passionate speech by teenage Charlotte, a survivor of cancer and her father Paul. She described her own medical ordeal and her dad explained how it had affected the whole family. Both became Ambassadors for KidScan, a charity supporting research into dealing effectively with kid cancer as well as offering family support. Tameside Rotary already supported a Charity called KidsOut which offered a special day out to disadvantaged children.
Andy thought could we combine KidsOut with KidScan providing a special day out for children dealing with cancer and its after effects. Paul came up with the idea of a ten pin bowling day. So on a very sunny and hot Sunday 22nd June, that’s exactly what we had at Hollywood Bowl, Ashton Moss with very excited children having fun, competition and food! We thank Rotarian John Moon, Tameside Rotary’s former Community Chair for organising this event which also gave us all a chance to celebrate a very special birthday with him! Yes, we all sang to him in the foyer and there wasn’t even a cake in sight!!
