The start of 2025 has seen the Ashton Market Ground works funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up funding step up a gear with traders relocated to their new temporary site in Fletcher Square and  the old stalls demolished on the market.  It was back in September when some of the old cabins were lifted from the market to the temporary site after ground works were made ready for water and electrical supplies.

Work on the transformation of Ashton Market Square includes the new market cabins planned to be installed under the new canopy site manufactured by

Whitecrate. The Casey Group will construct the canopy and public space beneath it, and the Council’s Engineering team will continue the improvements on from the Wellington Road scheme to complete the public realm enhancements in the Market Square. The comprehensive redevelopment will transform Market Square into a vibrant, multi-use space. Key design features include high-quality seating, attractive planting, new paving, enhanced lighting, CCTV for safety, and a large canopy to create a versatile civic space for markets, cultural events, and performances.

The square will also include new green spaces and ample lighting, providing areas for people to spend time with family and friends and encourage new visitors to the town.
