Families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across the borough were invited to the launch of the Tameside Umbrella Parent Carer Forum event at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday January 10th.

The free event had two sessions running between 11am–2pm and 4pm–7pm. It provided parents and carers the chance to meet the newly formed steering group, provide an opportunity for peer support, and hear how Tameside Umbrella Parent Carer Forum can make a real difference.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Children and Families, Councillor Teresa Smith, said: “The launch of the Tameside Umbrella Parent Carer Forum is a fantastic opportunity for local families to be at the forefront of influencing SEND services across the borough. The Forum is run by parents and carers, for parents and carers, and I’m looking forward to working closely with them for the benefit of our young people.”
Representatives from the national charity Contact shared insights into the impactful work of parent carer forums, and local SEND services were on hand to discuss their support for families in Tameside.
