Ladysmith Shopping Centre launches this years “Amazing Ashton Awards” to showcase local’s outstanding contributions to the community

Do you know an individual, group of people, charity or organisation who deserves recognition for the great things they do to make the Ashton community amazing? Ladysmith Shopping Centre wants to hear from you!

Ladysmith is proud to present the Amazing Ashton Awards 2021, which encourages people within the community and businesses alike to celebrate the town’s heroes by identifying the efforts of local people and the fantastic work they do – as well as raising money in support of the centre’s Charity of the Year, Willow Wood Hospice.

The last year or so has been incredibly challenging for us all, but some people really have gone above and beyond to help their community throughout the COVID 19 pandemic. Therefore the awards will again  include the category, ‘Covid-19 Hero Award’
Do you know someone who has been a beacon of support to an individual or group throughout the pandemic? Perhaps they’re a healthcare worker, essential worker or even a neighbour who has worked hard to support others.

The nominations are now open for the other seven-strong award categories too, which cover every aspect of community life and recognise the enormous contribution made by people and projects which deserve to receive that special acknowledgement.

Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Janet Cooper and Consort, Mr Dennis Fitzpatrick encourage Ladsysmith shoppers to nominate in this years AMAZING ASHTON AWARDS

The categories include: Charity Fundraiser, Employee of the Year, Independent Retailer / Market Trader of the Year, Local Business / Entrepreneur of the Year, Great Leader, Ladysmith’s Retailer of the Year, and the Young Achievers Award.

Samantha Robinson, Centre Manager at Ladysmith Shopping Centre, said: “There is something quite extraordinary about the sacrifices ordinary people are making every day in Ashton to maintain and improve our community.

“They quietly go about their business, not seeking any recognition, and this is a fantastic opportunity to tell them how important they are and how grateful we are.

“I would appeal to everyone to submit a nomination form to recognise people or organisations that work hard to help make the area better. Community work may be highly visible or more discreet depending on the circumstances, and we very much wish to hear about the variety of work that is ongoing.”

The judging panel, which is yet to be revealed, will have the impossible task of choosing the winners and these will be announced at a glamorous gala event in November.

Nominations are now open via our website  www.ladysmithshoppingcentre.co.uk or you can pick up a nominations form from our Willow Wood store in the centre and post it in the post box.
