This project’s mission is to provide free, nutritious food using the kitchen facilities at Hyde Town Hall. They source their ingredients from Fareshare i.e. food which would have ordinarily gone to waste. They want to initiate cooking classes with the help of our partners to demonstrate cooking techniques on low budgets.

In December we caught up with the volunteers from the Tameside Meals Project at work in the kitchens of Hyde Town Hall.  The group has been established since August in 2021 and they make between 150 to 200 meals on a Tuesday. They have a team of up to 6 volunteers with the meals being distributed all across Tameside.  Some of those benefitting includes the homeless who use The Station pub in Ashton, Greystones, The Town House, Anthony Seddon Fund and a number of other community organisations.  The service is provided whilst the funding lasts but like everything there will be a point where it may end.  The group welcomes new volunteers and those who may have surplus fruit and vegetables from allotments they would be put to good use for the meals.  If you can offer any help or support, please contact Kala Mandviwala on email at kala1962@hotmail.co.uk or call 07968 323382.
