The nominations for the 2024 Martyn Hett Memorial Trophy are now open. The trophy was first presented in 2017 in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena bomb atrocity, on May 22nd of that year, that claimed 22 victims. One of those was Martyn Hett, son of Paul Hett, who owned the Fishing and Trophy shop in Hyde, that bears his name.
The main trophy was rescued when a running shop on Market Street, Hyde, was closing down. The trophy had formed been one of the awards connected to The Hyde 7 running race, part of the Tour of Tameside, when the event first began.
Nominations are free to make by Tameside residents, for those they feel should be recognised for contributions to the Tameside community.
The presentation will once again be part of the Hyde Mela celebration in Hyde Park on August 25th.
Paul Hett will choose 3 trophy recipients, with his favourite nominee having their name inscribed on the main trophy.
All awards will be presented by the Mayor of Tameside.
To nominate search for the Martyn Hett Memorial 2024 Facebook event page and comment with the name of your nominee (or group) and reason for the nomination.
