A weekly Pantry Store has opened in Cedar Park, Hurst Ashton.  Supported by local volunteers, Ashton United In The Community, Smallshaw Hurst Children’s Community and St John’s the Evangelist Church and Tameside Youth Service they have guided local people to set up their own organisation, Smallshaw Hurst Community Action Group.

This comes off the back of an initial 5-week programme, that was set-up at Ashton United Football Club during the pandemic to help alleviate holiday hunger and support local people and families.  The 5-week programme started in July 2020 and continued providing over 1,500 food packages and lunches.

Steve Hobson Vice Chairman of Ashton United FC said: ‘We are thrilled to have been the catalyst for community action. Local people will now run the Pantry Store from Cedar Park and, whilst we will still offer guidance and practical help, hopefully we can safely return to our business of competitive football again.’

The weekly store has been set up to help the local community. There will be a wide range of products included chilled and frozen food.

This is a member only store and to join membership form will need to be completed. If you live in Hurst, Hurst Cross and Smallshaw then registering is free.

Members will need to pay a small fee of £3 each time they shop and in return can expect a basket of food products to the value of at least £12.
