Back in 2003 the new Ashton Moss Leisure Park welcomed the areas first multiplex cinema by the Cineworld Cinema chain. The opening was attended by the then groups Chair, Steve Weiner who was joined by Councillor Kieran Quinn at a special opening event. At the time the management team featured General Manager Francis Lamb, along with a management team that included Saul Jackson who had previously worked at Showcase Cinemas in Belle Vue.
At the time film was being projected on state of the art equipment but over the years this has now been replaced by digital technology to show the films sent via encoded data to the site.
Although the bar area has long since gone the cinema has had various upgrades in recent years which have included the addition of an IMAX screen and a 4DX screen that gives audiences some additional interaction during a film screening along with physical effects. There has also been the addition of a Starbucks onsite which complements the other refreshment options on offer.
So if you were going to Cineworld back in December 2003 what films would you have been watching ? The big film was Lord Of the Rings:Return Of The King with other realeases that included Calendar Girls, Cheaper By The Dozen, Girl With the Pearl Earring and The Last Samurai.
Since Covid and the onslaught of streaming cinema is starting to build its audience again providing the best experience to see the latest film releases. As we enter the cinema’s 21st year Cineworld will be welcoming films like Gladiator 2, Kingdom Of the Planet of the Apes, Joker: Folie a Deux, Deadpool 3, Captain America: Brave New World, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Dune Part Two.
