Last month The Indian Plaza in Audenshaw was proud to win the Best Asian Restaurant in the North Of England at the prestigious Asian Restaurant Awards 2023. The awards ceremony, in association with Just Eat, took place at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel on July 31st where Plaza owner Mafuz Mia accepted the accolade,

Addressing an audience of more than 500 of the country’s leading Asian restaurant owners, chefs and local dignitaries – awards organiser, Yawar Khan, Chairman of the Asian Catering Federation (ACF), praised the industry’s response in adapt to “fresh culinary ideas” and their “willingness to embrace the more discerning needs of the public.” We caught up with Mafuz at the restaurant where he proudly displayed the award saying “ We were facing competition from high quality restaurants all across the North so we were delighted to win. We’ve been here for twenty years and its thanks to the customers support and reviews that the judges were impressed with. I just want to say thank you to our customers for their amazing support and the team we have here at The Indian Plaza for all their hard work.”
It seems the desire to provide high quality food runs in the family because 4 months ago Mafuz son, Kaleen, opened Burgerfy on Edge lane in Droylsden. We asked the 20 year old how he took his first steps into business. “I started by working in my uncles branch in Glossop and after two years got the hang of it and decided to come to Droylsden to try it on my own. I also worked at the Plaza from when I was around 13 helping out at weekends and I loved it. My hopes are this will become a franchise and the key thing is maintaining the quality and being consistent with any new products.”
Although initially the focus was on burgers the business has added wraps, loaded fries and shakes so Burgerfy looks set to become another food success for the Mia family.
