

As well as marking the VE DAY anniversary many have welcomed the event in Tameside to commemorate VJ DAY 80th anniversary.
Victory over Japan Day (also known as VJ Day) took place on August 15th, 1945, Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end. An estimated 71,000 soldiers from Britain and Commonwealth countries died fighting Japan, including more than 12,000 prisoners of war who died in Japanese captivity. 15th August is the official VJ Day for the United Kingdom.
Tameside Council put together an event honouring history, embracing creativity and celebrating community. The event for VJ Day was a joyful gathering of art, theatre, science, and community spirit! Set in the heart of King George V Playing Fields, this special event brought together families, friends, and neighbours to reflect on history, express creativity, and celebrate peace.
