On Friday October 10th Tameside said a final goodbye to Ricky Hatton MBE as the people of Hyde and beyond paid their respects. His cortege began in Hyde at The Cheshire Cheese and then included a dove release at The New Inn before passing his gym to head down Market Street.
Crowds gathered around Hyde Town Hall as the procession made its way past, led by a truck hosting his beloved Only Fools and Horses van, then the hearse and other vehicles in the cortege. Rounds of applause echoed around and Manchester City flags waved proudly as The Hitman left Hyde to the service at Manchester Cathedral before culminating at the Etihad. To receive him in Manchester a host of familiar faces included Wayne Rooney, Paddy McGuinness, Amir Khan, Frank Bruno, Tyson Fury, Nigel Benn, Freddie Flintoff and Greater Manchester’s Mayor Andy Burnham amongst them.

There was only one Ricky Hatton – rest in peace.
