From September 11th until 20th Tameside once again has a series of events for 2026 Heritage Open Days, These include various venues offering access across the borough including The Fairfield Moravian Settlement in Droylsden, Ashton Old Baths, St James Church Ashton, St Lawrence Church Denton and Hyde Town Hall. • Wednesday 9th September 2.00 pm Join us for a talk by Mossley Heritage Centre exploring the wide range of work the Centre does to preserve and share Mossley’s rich local history. From caring for archives to exhibitions, events and community projects.
• Tuesday 15th September 2.00 pm Join John Kidger for a talk exploring his family’s history and their connection to the industrial landscape of Park Bridge. John will explore the experiences of those who lived and worked in this once-thriving industrial community.
• Wednesday 23rd September 2.00 pm Heritage Quiz: Join us for a friendly afternoon of history-themed quiz questions in celebration of Heritage Month. Enjoy good company, free refreshments, and the chance to learn something new in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome!
• Tuesday 29th September 2.00 pm Discover the powerful stories of people from Manchester who were aboard the Titanic on its ill-fated maiden voyage. This fascinating talk explores their lives, journeys and connection to the city, bringing local voices to one of history’s most famous events.
• Wednesday 30th September 2.00 pm Join us for a talk by North West Labour History on Liam Mellows, born at the Hartshead Military Barracks, Ashton-under-Lyne on 25 May 1892. Between 1916 and 1922 Mellows played a significant part in the Irish War of Independence. He lost his life in the Irish Civil War.
